The word “dojo” has an interesting history. Originally a Japanese term defined as “the place of the way,” it’s come to mean a training ground for various types of martial arts, including aikido, judo, and karate. Languages, by the way, love to do this kind of thing – they play dirty – stealing words, borrowing meanings, changing spellings, butchering pronunciations, just to name a few. Happens all the time.
A few months ago, in the winter of 2013, I thought to myself – why not give this word another twist? It was bound to happen sooner or later, right? That’s how this project was born.
Lingodojo is where the discipline of a martial arts dojo meets language learning. It’s a place for anyone, anywhere in the world, to receive a first-class English education conveniently from their computer with just a few clicks.
It’s more than just a website. It’s a learning experience. And what makes us different from the competition is our commitment to realism.
At Lingodojo, you learn to apply what you learn to realistic scenarios. The best way to master an art or skill is to put it to practice. And frankly, that doesn’t happen passively – it can only happen if it’s an active process – something that requires energy, enthusiasm, and effort in order to become successful.
Here, you’ll be trained by teachers who are top graduates of Ivy League universities. They’ll connect with you to build a long-term partnership that focuses on you, the student, and nothing more.
Whether you’re just a visitor prowling through our pages or a serious student, stay tuned to learn more of what we do. If you like what you see, drop me a note. There’s much more to come very soon.
To your success,
Founder – Lingodojo
